Privacy Policy

Last updated October 22, 2026

Runtier is a running and workout app made by an independent developer. This policy explains what Runtier collects, why, who else touches it, and how to delete it. The short version: your workouts are yours, nothing is sold, there are no ads, and you can delete everything from inside the app.

What stays on your phone

Everything you record, your stats, levels, gems, plans, shoes, settings and health numbers are saved on your phone. Runtier works without an account.

Location is used while a workout is recording, to measure distance, pace and your route, and when you open the map or ask the route finder for a route. Runtier does not track your location at any other time.

What goes to the Runtier server (only if you sign in)

Account: your email address (to send sign-in codes), username, the name friends see, and anything you add to your profile (team, bio, town, profile picture). Also your level, rank, XP, badge count and whether you have Pro, so friends and leaderboards can show them.

Workouts you share: start time, sport, distance, time, climb, average heart rate, title, device name, photos and a simplified map. The first and last part of each map is trimmed and your privacy zones are cut out before anything leaves your phone. You pick who sees each one: everyone, followers, or only you.

Social: who you follow, kudos, comments, direct messages, clubs, coach teams, events and RSVPs, invite codes, people you block and reports you send.

Cloud backup (on by default when signed in, and you can turn it off): a private copy of your runs with full GPS tracks and your app files (settings, PRs, workouts, routes, gems and health summaries) so a new phone gets everything back. Nobody else can read your backup.

Buddy match (only if you opt in): a rough area (about 10 km), your easy pace and when you like to run.

Notifications (only if you allow them): a push token for your phone and which kinds of alerts you want.

Waitlist

If you join the waitlist on the Runtier website, we save your email address and the date you joined. We use it only to tell you when Runtier launches and to send early-access invites. It is never sold or shared. To be removed, email [email protected].

Health data

With your permission Runtier reads workouts, heart rate, resting heart rate, VO2 max, HRV, sleep, steps, calories, breathing rate, blood oxygen, weight, floors and exercise minutes from Apple Health or Health Connect. Runtier only reads. It never writes to or changes your health data.

Health data is used only to show you your own training, recovery and progress. It is never sold, never used for advertising or marketing, and never shared with anyone, except the average heart rate on a workout you choose to share and your private cloud backup.

Garmin watches (only if you link one)

If you install Runtier for Garmin (the data field or the glance) on a Garmin watch or bike computer, it gets a random ID that is stored on the device, plus a link to your account once you type its code into the app. The device sends its model number. It receives your name, rank, level, league place and chest progress so it can show them.

The data field also sends a simplified GPS track of each activity (a point about every 25 meters, with time and altitude), plus the distance, moving time and average heart rate, so the app can put the map on that workout. Tracks wait on the server only until your phone picks them up, then they are deleted, and an unmatched track is deleted after 3 days. Unlinking the device in the app stops all of this.

Who else handles your data

Supabase hosts the Runtier server and database (United States).

Apple and Google deliver notifications through Expo's push service, and handle all payments. Runtier never sees your card.

RevenueCat records which subscriptions and purchases you own, using an anonymous app ID, so Pro works on all your devices.

Sentry receives crash reports (device model, system version, app version and what the app was doing when it crashed) so bugs get fixed. Crash reports do not include your workouts or messages.

Weather: the rounded start location and time of a workout are sent to a weather service (Apple WeatherKit or the Norwegian Meteorological Institute) to look up the weather for that run.

Route finder: when you ask for a route, the area around your location is sent to OpenStreetMap's Overpass service to load nearby streets and paths. No account or name is sent with it.

Sign-in codes are sent by email through an email delivery service.

These services only process data to run Runtier. None of them may sell it or use it for their own advertising.

What Runtier never does

Runtier has no ads, does not sell or rent your data, does not share it with data brokers, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account any time in You, then Profile & settings, then Delete account. This removes your profile, shared workouts, photos, comments, messages, follows, clubs and teams you made, events you host, push tokens and your cloud backup from the server right away. Server backups kept by our host roll over within 30 days.

Workouts on your phone stay on your phone until you delete the app or erase them in settings. Disconnecting Apple Health or Health Connect stops Runtier reading it.

Children

Runtier is not for children under 13, and signing in asks for your birth year. If we learn that a child under 13 has an account, it will be deleted. Parents can ask for this at [email protected].

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California) you have the right to see, correct, export or delete your data and to object to how it is used. Most of this is in the app. For anything else, email [email protected] and you'll get an answer within 30 days. Runtier does not sell or share personal information as defined by California law.

Security

Data is sent over encrypted connections. Database rules make sure people can only see what you chose to share with them. No system is perfectly secure, so please use an email account only you can get into.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the app will ask you to read and accept it again. Questions: [email protected].
